Bret's Bio
Bret Miller has spent the majority of his life living, loving, and learning all of the natural aspects of
Wisconsin’s Northwoods and Upper Peninsula of Michigan. His family bought a home on Duck Lake in North
Land O’ Lakes in the late 1970s. From that point on, Bret, with the help of many local mentors and nature
enthusiasts, grew to be one of the most knowledgeable locals of the lakes, rivers, and forests throughout
the area.
Fishing, canoeing, kayaking, boating, hiking, skiing, and gardening took on an entirely new perspective
and his love of nature and educating others remains his chief focus today. His skill in angling, fly
fishing, bait casting, spin casting, and storytelling are envied by many who have had the opportunity to
enjoy outdoor activities with him.
He focuses on bringing his knowledge to the forefront by concentrating on the area he knows the best. This
area includes, but is not limited to, the Northern part of Vilas, Oneida Counties, and Gogebic County
Michigan. Go-to lakes include the Cisco Chain, Forest, Black Oak, Lac du Lune, High and Fishtrap, Oxbow,
Big Portage, and last but not least, literally hundreds of small lakes offering awesome fishing and the
ultimate outdoor wilderness experiences.
During the winter months, Bret loves ice fishing and sharing his enthusiasm for winter recreation with
others. He is a great outdoor cook, specializing in fish fries and wild game dishes. Love of family,
friends, and focusing on making the best experiences possible for others will capture the essence of any
trip or outing with Bret.

Have known Bret for several decades, always has stories of fishing
and amazing wildlife, he also taught me the art of fly fishing in
the serenity of the pristine boundary waters… and now I am 🪝for
life… nothing gets the heart pumping like a nice fish on the end of
a fly rod in a kayak!!😎😁

The only thing that surpasses Bret’s outright knowledge
of everything Northwoods is his joy and passion of sharing it with others!
Pat Foley, Iowa
Bret has been our Northwoods fishing guide for many years.
He has an amazing ability to find the fish no matter the weather
conditions or time of day. But, that’s what you expect from
a good fishing guide. Bret’s unique skill is his ability to relate
to everyone. He is a patient teacher, knowledgeable historian,
avid environmentalist and skilled storyteller.
After a day on the lake with Bret our friends and family
always come alway smiling, no matter how many fish are on the string.
We look forward to every outing with Bret.
